Madera, California (July 8, 2021) – The Madera County Coroner’s Bureau has identified the motorcycle rider and his passenger who were killed Wednesday night in a collision with a car east of Madera as Larry Dale Stanford, 67, and his wife Penny Louise Stanford, 63, both of Chowchilla.

The deadly crash happened at around 11:12 p.m. Wednesday, July 7 on Highway 145 near Island Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said Larry Stanford was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Highway 145 towards Island Drive when an eastbound Hyundai attempted to make a left turn in front of him.

The motorcycle ultimately collided with the Hyundai. The couple was thrown off the bike upon the impact.

Couple Killed in Madera Motorcycle Crash Identified

Larry Stanford was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Penny Stanford was taken to Madera Community Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Cully was not injured in the crash.

Further details regarding the accident were not immediately available.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
