Sebastopol, California (June 2, 2021) – The Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau has identified the motorcyclist who died last month following a collision with a car north of Sebastopol as Lance Janssen, 54, of Santa Rosa.

The deadly crash happened at around 8:21 a.m. Friday, May 21, on Occidental Road, just east of State Route 116.

Authorities said Janssen was riding a Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Occidental Road when he crossed over double yellow lines to pass a slower vehicle.

For unknown reasons, the Yamaha collided head-on with a Chevrolet SUV. A Mercedes SUV traveling eastbound struck the right side of the Chevrolet.

Paramedics responded to the scene and found Janssen unresponsive as a result of the crash. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chevrolet driver and her two juvenile passengers were not injured in the crash. The driver of the Mercedes and her passenger were also unhurt.

Officers closed Occidental Road at High School Road following the incident.
