Ridgecrest, California (October 21, 2020) – The woman who died in a traffic accident Sunday afternoon in Ridgecrest has been identified as Kyung Shim, 72, of Los Angeles, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

The deadly crash happened at around 4:39 p.m. Sunday, October 18, on Highway 395.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota Highlander was heading southbound on Highway 395 when the driver allegedly mistook a stop sign for a four-way stop and proceeded eastbound.

Reportedly, a vehicle that was traveling northbound crashed into the Highlander.

Shim, who was in the Highlander, was transported to an area hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

Paramedics were on the scene to treat those who were injured in the crash.

Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the accident. No additional information about the crash was provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
