22-Year-Old Kyle Towai Killed in Hemet Car Crash on Florida Avenue

Hemet, California (May 5, 2019) –The man who was seriously hurt and died two days after, in an alleged DUI crash in Hemet Wednesday night has been identified as 22-year-old Kyle Towai, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
The accident, which was reported shortly after 9:00 p.m. May 1, occurred on Florida Avenue near Warren Road.
The crash occurred when a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 25-year-old Faalele Rosemarie Patea hit the rear of Honda Civic which was slowing for a red light at the time. The initial report indicated that Patea was heading east on Florida Avenue at very high speed before the collision. A third vehicle was reported to have been involved in the crash at the same time.
Towai and another male occupant in his 20s, riding in the Honda suffered significant injuries following the accident. Towai was transported to Riverside University Health System Medical Center where he was miserably pronounced dead early Friday. The other man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Thursday, according to a local news source.
The police believed that Patea, a Moreno Valley residence was intoxicated at the time of the accident. She was arrested and charged for driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.
The authorities are still gathering more information to come up with a final report about the leading cause of the accident.
