Somis, California (January 15, 2021) – The driver who died in a fiery single-vehicle accident Thursday morning in Somis has been identified as Kayleigh Varvais, 23, of Camarillo.

The deadly accident happened at about 1:43 a.m. Thursday, January 14, at the intersection of Donlon Road and La Cumbre Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, Varvais was driving a Chevrolet Trax northbound on Donlon Road at unspecified speed when she allegedly ran a red light at La Cumbre Road and continued through the “T” intersection.

For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet crashed into a tree north of the roadway and burst into flames, which spread to nearby trees, the officials said.

Varvais was trapped in the burning vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, police said.

It was not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
