Judith Blankenfeld Fatal Car Crash on 405 Freeway in Long Beach

Long Beach, California (April 16, 2019) – The woman who was killed Monday night in a traffic accident in Long Beach has been identified as Judith Blankenfeld, 77, of Hilo, Hawaii, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened on 405 Freeway, just south of Lakewood Boulevard Monday, April 15.

According to the authorities, a 2018 Tesla driven by an unidentified man, was traveling on the southbound 405 Freeway when it struck a raised concrete curb at the end of the Lakewood Boulevard on-ramp. The Tesla then veered onto the right shoulder and hit an unoccupied 2011 Chevrolet.

The force of the impact tore a rear passenger door off the Tesla, causing Blankenfeld to be ejected onto the freeway, where she was struck by another car.

Blankenfeld was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Tesla and another passenger, both of San Clemente, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
