Tulare County, California (April 27, 2021) – Juan Mendoza Morales was seriously after being involved in a deadly three-vehicle crash Monday morning in Tulare County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The pileup took place at around 7:52 a.m. Monday, April  26, on Highway 43 at Avenue 108.

According to the CHP, Morales was driving a 1997 Ford southbound on Highway 43 when, for unknown reasons, he allowed the vehicle to cross into the opposite lanes, where it slammed into two commercial vehicles.

As a result of the collision, one of the commercial vehicles, described as a Freightliner truck, flipped onto its side and jack-knifed.

Morales suffered major injuries and was transported to a hospital while his female passenger, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two drivers of the commercial vehicles, Gilberto Ochoa and Victor Manuel Parra, were uninjured.

It is still unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
