Juan Carlos Mata ID’d as Man Killed in Turlock Crash at Bradbury and Walnut Roads
Turlock, California (July 31, 2019) – Authorities have identified the man who was killed Tuesday evening in a traffic accident at an intersection south of Turlock as Juan Carlos Mata, 42, of Turlock.
The fatal crash, which was reported at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, happened at the intersection of Bradbury and Walnut Roads.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Jacklyn Frost, 58, of Hughson, was traveling westbound on Bradbury Road at about 55 mph while a 2017 Toyota Corolla driven by Mata, was heading southbound on Walnut Road, approaching Bradbury at high speed.
Mata allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and struck the driver side of the Corolla. Due to the impact, both vehicles drifted off the roadway and crashed into a wood post and metal cable fence. The Corolla then hit a tree.
Mata was pronounced dead at the scene. Frost was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
Both drivers were wearing their safety belts at the time of the collision. It’s undetermined if drugs or alcohol were suspected factors in the collision.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
