Joshua King ID’d as Man Killed in Aptos Bicycle Crash on Rio Del Mar Boulevard
Aptos, California (November 4, 2020) – The bicyclist who died Friday afternoon in a traffic in the parking area of the Rio Del Mar Esplanade in Aptos has been identified as Joshua Fenimore King, 48, of Aptos, according to the Santa Clara County Coroner’s office.
The California Highway Patrol said the deadly crash happened at about 12:20 p.m. Friday, October 30, on Rio Del Mar Boulevard.
According to the CHP, King was riding his bicycle westbound on Rio Del Mar Boulevard at approximately 25 to 30 miles per hour when he lost control of the bike while negotiating a steep downhill grade.
King reportedly entered the parking area, where he hit a Toyota Avalon and a Chevrolet pickup. Both vehicles were parked, the CHP said.
Deadly Bicycle Crash on Rio Del Mar Boulevard in Aptos
King was thrown from the bicycle upon the impact. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the authorities said.
King was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
It is undetermined whether alcohol and drugs were factors in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
