Jose Vasquez Killed in Car Accident on Highway 101 near Leavesley Road in Gilroy
Gilroy, California (November 13, 2020) – 21-year-old Jose David Prieto Vasquez has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as the man who died in a pursuit on Highway 101 in Gilroy on Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly collision happened on Highway 101 north of Leavesley Road at about 1 a.m. November 8.
Vasquez was driving a Ford Mustang when he failed to yield for a suspected DUI enforcement stop and continued northbound where he sideswiped a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado near Coyote Creek Golf Drive.
The impact caused the Mustang to overturn onto its roof.
Vasquez was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated before being transported to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
The driver and passenger in the Silverado were unhurt.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
