Jose De Loa Huerta ID’d as Man Killed in Piru Crash on Highway 126 near Center Street
Piru, California (March 17, 2021) – The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died early Monday morning following a head-on crash in Piru as Jose De Loa Huerta, 44, of Ivanhoe.
The deadly accident happened at around 5:20 a.m. Monday, March 15, on Highway 126 near Center Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said De Loa Huerta was driving westbound on Highway 126 when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his black Ford F-150 pickup truck and drifted across the center divider into opposite lanes, where it was broadsided by an eastbound white Freightliner box truck driven by a 31-year-old Fillmore man.
After the impact, the two vehicles traveled a short distance and stopped on the eastbound shoulder of the highway.
Deadly Truck Accident on Highway 126 in Piru
De Loa Huerta was declared deceased at the scene. The box truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
It is undetermined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision. Authorities said the roadway was very slick at the time of the crash.
The crash prompted the closure of all eastbound lanes of Highway 126 for nearly one hour.
The accident remains under investigation.
