Sutter County, California (July 1, 2019) – Jorge Yanezperez, 31, of Yuba City, has been identified as one of the three people who were injured Sunday afternoon in a traffic accident that also killed a juvenile in Sutter County.
The fatal crash occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30 on Highway 99, just south of Clark Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2008 Ford F-250 was traveling southbound at about 15 miles per hour when it rear-ended a 1999 Acura Integra driven by Yanezperez. The driver of the Ford was allegedly texting when he failed to see the vehicle in front.
Due to the force of the impact, the Acura was pushed into the northbound lane, where it stopped.
The impact also caused the juvenile passenger, a girl from Wheatland, to be ejected from the Acura and died at the scene.
The Ford continued on southbound Highway 99 and crashed into the rear of a 2008 Honda CRV that was also traveling at about 15 miles per hour. That impact caused the Ford to flip over and ejected its driver onto the east shoulder of the highway before coming to a rest on its roof and blocked the northbound lane.
Two other northbound cars, a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2010 Acura Integra, were also unable to avoid the collision and crashed into the wrecked vehicles.
The driver of the Ford sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital. Yanezperez and his passenger were taken to a hospital with major injuries.
The driver and passenger of the 2010 Acura Integra sustained minor injuries.
CHP said alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be factors in the crash.
The incident is under investigation.
