Jorge Cardenas Hospitalized after Modesto Crash on Oakdale Road near Wylie Drive
Modesto, California (June 24, 2021) – Jorge Cardenas, 30, of Turlock, was injured after being involved in a deadly traffic collision early Thursday morning in Modesto, authorities said.
The crash happened at about 2:00 a.m. on Oakdale Road near Wylie Drive.
Police said Jorge Cardenas, 30, of Turlock, was driving northbound on Oakdale Road when he lost control of his sedan, which then spun into the southbound lane, where it collided with an oncoming pickup truck.
Erika Navarro Killed in Modesto DUI Crash on Oakdale Road
A passenger in the sedan, identified as Erika Navarro, 33, of Turlock, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cardenas sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.
Investigators later determined that Cardenas was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. He faces charges of homicide, DUI, and vehicular homicide after being released from the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
