Tulare, California (July 28, 2021) – Jerry Avila, 21, of Tulare, was among two people who were injured Saturday night in an alleged DUI crash that also left a 19-year-old Visalia man dead in Tulare, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly accident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, July 24, on Road 92, just north of Avenue 260.

The CHP said Avila was driving a 2002 Chevrolet northbound on Road 92 when he failed to navigate a curved roadway.

Avila’s vehicle reportedly drifted into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2000 Ford driven by the 19-year-old Visalia man.

Fatal Head-On Collision on Road 92 in Tulare     

The Visalia man was ejected from his vehicle upon the impact and died at the scene. Avila and his passenger sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital.

Authorities believed alcohol played a role in the collision.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
