Temecula, California (June 5, 2019) – The Murrieta woman who was killed Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in Temecula has been identified as Janet Genao, 44, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner.

The deadly wreck took place at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4 on Interstate 15 Freeway near Rancho California Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Javier Caldera, 25, of Auburn, Washington, was speeding on the southbound Interstate 15 Freeway when it rear-ended a 2015 Nissan Altima operated by Genao.

The force of the impact created a chain reaction crash that involved four other vehicles including a Chevrolet S-10 Pickup truck that veered off the freeway and slammed a parking structure near Temecula City Hall before coming to a rest.

The other three vehicles in the chain were a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 2017 Tesla Model S and a 2017 Toyota Camry.

Genao died at the scene. Mike Rivera-Aguilar, 38, who was the driver of the Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, was taken to a hospital with major injuries.

Two other people, a 55-year-old Irvine man in the Tesla Model S and a 35-year-old man of Brandon, Mississippi, were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. A 50-year-old El Cajon man in the Toyota Camry was not injured.

Caldera was unhurt and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

The crash remains under investigation.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Janet Genao. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult period.  We also wish those injured a quick recovery.
