Jane Hansen ID’d as Woman Killed in Richvale Train Accident on Highway 162 near Riceton Highway
Richvale, California (April 13, 2021) – The woman who died after a pickup truck crashed into a train Sunday evening in Butte County has been identified as Jane Hansen, 79, of San Jose.
The deadly accident happened at about 7:06 p.m. Sunday, April 11, in the Richvale area on Highway 162 near Riceton Highway, authorities said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, David Hansen, 84, of San Jose, was driving a 2010 Toyota Tundra westbound on Highway 162 while a Union Pacific train was traveling southbound toward Highway 162 at about 30 mph.
For undetermined reasons, David failed to stop his vehicle at the railroad crossing. As the train crossed Highway 162, the Toyota Tundra hit the railroad warning arm and then slammed into the front train.
Due to the impact, the Toyota Tundra spun out and came to rest facing east.

Jane, who was a passenger in the Toyota Tundra, was pronounced dead at the scene. David suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Authorities said all train crossing signals, warning lights and crossing arms were working properly when the accident happened.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
