Jamila Habib ID’d as Woman Killed in Yuba County Pedestrian Accident at Hammonton Smartsville Road and Lowe Avenue

Yuba County, California (February 22, 2019) – The woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday morning in Yuba County has been identified as Jamila Habib, 72, of Marysville, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The tragic accident took place at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, February 21 at the intersection of Hammonton Smartsville Road and Lowe Avenue.
As per the CHP report, Virginia Castaneda, 45, of Marysville, was operating a Dodge Caliber southbound on Lowe Avenue and stopped at the stop sign at Hammonton Smartsville Road. She didn’t see the pedestrian and started to accelerate to turn left, hitting Habib.
Habib sustained major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Four passengers in the Dodge Caliber, ranging from age 5 to 21, were uninjured in the crash. They were all wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
According to the CHP, alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the wreck.
The accident remains under investigation.
