Jamie Sanchez Dies after Benbow Accident on Highway 101 near Benbow Drive

Benbow, California (December 20, 2019) – 44-year-old Jamie Mae Sanchez has been identified as one of the two motorists killed after a head-on crash Wednesday morning in Benbow, Southern Humboldt, according to a local news source.
The fatal collision occurred at around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, on Highway 101, south of Benbow Drive.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a white 1994 Honda Accord driven by a 32-year-old Teiwaz Steenblock-Smith was traveling northbound on Highway 101 when at the same time, Sanchez was driving a gray 2017 Toyota Prius southbound.
The Honda then crossed into the southbound lanes and directly into the path of the Toyota and the two cars crashed head-on. The cars then rested and partially blocked the southbound lanes.
Sanchez and Steenblock-Smith died in the crash.
According to officials, two dogs riding in the Honda died in the collision.
Officials did not immediately say if alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and City Ambulance, the Redway and Garberville Volunteer Fire, Caltrans, and the CHP officials responded to the scene.
An investigation is underway.
