James Stokes Hit, Injured by Vehicle on West Vernon Avenue in Vermont Square
James Stokes ID’d as Pedestrian Critically in Vermont Square Hit-and-Run Accident on West Vernon Avenue at South Harvard Boulevard

Los Angeles, California (August 22, 2020) – The pedestrian who was struck and critically injured by a vehicle last week Friday in Vermont Square has been identified as James Stokes.
The accident happened at about 7:40 p.m. Friday, August 14, on West Vernon Avenue at South Harvard Boulevard.
Authorities said Stokes was hit by a speeding black Honda Civic while he was walking southbound across West Vernon Avenue at South Harvard Boulevard.
The driver did not stop to render aid to Stokes and fled the scene, heading eastbound on Vernon Avenue.
James Stokes Hospitalized after Vermont Square Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident
Stokes sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
On Friday, August 21, the authorities released images showing a woman believed to be the passenger in the vehicle that struck Stokes. The photos were taken by a witness to the crash.
The witness confronted the occupants of the Honda, and the female passenger got out of the vehicle with an open bottle of alcohol. The woman then re-entered the car and fled the scene.
Authorities said the Honda Civic sustained damage on the front windshield and hood and have a partial license plate that ends in “394.”
Police are still searching for the hit-and-run suspects.
