Jacob Johnson Hospitalized after Fatal Crash on Maricopa Highway in Maricopa
Man Killed, Another Injured in Maricopa Truck Collision on Maricopa Highway

Maricopa, California (January 22, 2019) – A man died, and another was hospitalized after a pickup truck crashed into a semi-truck Tuesday morning on a highway in Maricopa, a local news source reported.
The crash took place at about 4:45 a.m. on Maricopa Highway, also known as Highway 166, near Basic School Road.
As per the article, the California Highway Patrol said the pickup truck was traveling eastbound when it crashed into the semi-truck which was blocking all lanes of the highway.
Reportedly, about 15-20 minutes before the fatal crash, the semi was traveling westbound making a legal U-turn when one of the air hoses to the trailer became disconnected. As a result, the trailer locked its breaks, which happens so for safety precautions.
The driver of the trailer put out cones and reflective triangles to deflect traffic to the shoulder.
It was at that time that the driver of the eastbound pickup truck crashed into the trailer after failing to notice the truck driver attempting to deflect traffic.
The 47-year-old Maricopa man driving the pickup died at the crash scene.
His 25-year-old passenger, identified as Jacob Johnson, of Taft, was taken to KMC for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.
Authorities are investigating the accident.
