Humboldt Hill, California (January 22, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by several vehicles Tuesday morning in Humboldt Hill, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The tragic accident happened at about 6:24 a.m. on Highway 101 near the Humboldt Hill on-ramp.

According to the CHP, the person was walking on Highway 101 when they were hit by multiple vehicles, including a big rig.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the deceased has not been released pending identification and notification of family.

Traffic was halted on northbound 101. As of 8:14 a.m. one lane of northbound traffic was opened while the CHP investigated the accident.

The law requires drivers to slow down and give the right of way to pedestrians in both marked and unmarked crosswalks.

Investigators will inspect the vehicle involved for mechanical issues or system failure and analyze photographs of the site of the crash. They will also determine if the driver was intoxicated as at the time of the accident.

The final results of the case will determine if a family member may have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit and receive compensation.
