Irene Velasquez Injured in Fatal 2-Car Crash on Highway 65 in Porterville
Irene Velasquez Identified as 1 of 2 Persons Injured in Fatal Porterville Car Accident on Highway 65
Porterville, California (July 8, 2020) – Irene Velasquez, 51, from Visalia, has been identified as one of the two victims who were injured in a fatal head-on crash on Saturday in Porterville, authorities said.
The fatal two-car accident happened on July 4, on Highway 65, north of Avenue 200.
The CHP said a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling northbound on Highway 65 when it crossed the center median onto the southbound lanes of the highway where collided head-on with a 2019 GMC Sierra, operated by Eric Wise, 56, of Visalia.
The GMC was reportedly driving southbound on Highway 65 at approximately 65 mph when the crash happened.
As a result of the collision, the Nissan driver, a 27-year-old woman, was ejected onto the roadway. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The driver of the Nissan sustained major injuries and was taken to Sierra View Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Wise and his passenger Velasquez were transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with moderate injuries.
Drugs or alcohol did not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
