Bakersfield, California (June 23, 2021) – 55-year-old Humberto Velasquez Lopez has been identified by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office as the man who was killed in a pedestrian accident on Tuesday night in Bakersfield.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 9:15 p.m. June 22, at the intersection of Bernard and North Baker streets.

Lopez was walking on Bernard Street in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a 2009 Chevrolet Impala that was traveling eastbound.

Lopez sustained major injuries in the accident and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment. Sadly, he died while undergoing treatment

The driver of the Impala stayed at the scene and told the police he failed to notice the pedestrian cross the road.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
