Hawthorne, California (May 4, 2021) – One person was killed early Tuesday morning in a traffic crash involving two vehicles on a freeway in Hawthorne, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly two-car wreck occurred just after 3:00 a.m. on the 405 Freeway near El Segundo Boulevard.

The CHP said a Chevy Camaro collided with a Ford Mustang for unknown reasons on the 405 Freeway. After the impact, both vehicles overturned.

A video from the crash scene showed a body covered by a sheet near the right shoulder.

Emergency personnel who responded to the scene found a male occupant of the Mustang unconscious. His condition was not immediately available.

All northbound traffic was diverted to the 105 Freeway from the 405 while the investigation and cleanup took place. All lanes were reopened as of 8:00 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
