Gerber, CA: Major Injury Big Rig Crash on Interstate 5 at Flores Avenue June 11
3 Injured in Interstate 5 Accident at Flores Avenue in Gerber
Gerber, California (June 12, 2019) – Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon in a traffic accident in Gerber, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at around noon Tuesday, June 11 on Interstate 5 at Flores Avenue.
The CHP said three big rigs were heading northbound in the same lane when the first two big rigs stopped for a car fire that was ahead of them on Interstate 5.
The driver of the third big rig was unable to stop due at an unsafe speed and crashed into the rear of the big rig ahead of it and pushed the second big rig into the first.
Major Injury Big Rig Accident on Interstate 5 at Flores Avenue in Gerber
A 42-year-old British Columbia man, who was the occupant of the third big rig at the rear of the collision, sustained major, but not life-threatening injuries including a broken leg and was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Two occupants of the second big rig in the middle of the three big rigs sustained minor injuries. The second big rig driver, a 22-year-old man of Apopka, Fla. and his passenger, a 23-year-old man of Orlando, Fla., were both transported to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital.
The driver of the third big rig, a 62-year-old Livingston man, was uninjured.
The accident remains under investigation.
