Genaro Viramontes ID’d as Bicyclist Killed in Crash on Todd Road at South Moorland Avenue in Santa Rosa
Santa Rosa, California (November 7, 2019) – The bicyclist who died Tuesday afternoon after collided with a big rig in Santa Rosa has been identified by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office as Genaro Viramontes, 79, of Santa Rosa.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash was reported at around 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, November 5 on Todd Road at South Moorland Avenue.
CHP said a Peterbilt big-rig was stopped at a stop sign in the eastbound direction while Viramontes was standing next to his bicycle on the southwest corner of the intersection.
The big rig driver noticed the bike on his right was stopped and drove slowly through the intersection when the light turned green. Viramontes entered the crosswalk against a red light signal into the path of the truck.
Viramontes died in the accident.
The driver of the big rig remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
The crash remains under investigation.
