Man and Woman Killed in Gaviota Car Accident on Highway 101 near Nojoqui Grade

Gaviota, California (January 31, 2019) – A 48-year-old woman from Porterville and a 75-year-old man from Buellton were killed after a traffic collision Thursday afternoon in the area of Gaviota, according to a local news source.
The accident occurred at about 12:20 p.m. Thursday, on the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near Nojoqui Grade.
As per the report, the driver of a Honda Element was traveling southbound when they somehow lost control, crossed into the northbound lanes and crashed into a Jeep Cherokee.
The Honda driver and the Jeep passenger died at the scene. Officials said that a dog was also killed in the collision.
The Jeep driver identified as a 65-year-old woman from Buellton was airlifted to the hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
Officials closed all lanes of Highway 101 following the collision. The roads were opened as of 4:15 p.m.
No additional information concerning this incident was provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
