Gabriel Fernandez and Sammie Franks Injured in Car Accident at Burson Road and SR 12 in Calaveras County

Burson, California (April 16, 2021) – Two people were injured in a car accident that occurred in Burson on Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident happened at about 5:20 p.m. April 15, on Burson Road near State Route 12.
Gabriel Fernandez was driving a Nissan Murano southbound on Burson Road. At the same time, Sammie Franks was driving a 2009 Dodge 5500 tow truck, eastbound on State Route 12.
Fernandez is reported to have driven the Nissan into the path of Dodge and the two vehicles ultimately collided.
The impact of the crash sent the Dodge off the roadway where it struck a structure, bringing it down.
The Dodge then collided with an unoccupied Chevrolet pickup truck that was parked in the area.
The authorities said the Nissan continued in a northerly direction and collided with a barbed-wire fence.
Franks suffered major injuries in the accident and was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Fernandez was flown to Modesto Memorial Hospital in an unknown condition. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injuries and was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.
