Poway, California (February 13, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a Friday evening traffic accident that killed a 54-year-old man and his teenage son in Poway.

The deadly two-vehicle accident occurred just after 7:00 p.m., on February 12, in the 15000 block of Espola Road near Poway High school and Poway Center for the Performing Arts.

According to the officials, a Mercedes was allegedly headed southbound on Espola Road when a Toyota sedan pulled out of the school’s north parking lot and attempted to make a left-hand turn northbound onto Espola Road. 

Unfortunately, the Toyota, driven by the 54-year-old man, was broadsided on the driver’s side by the Mercedes operated by a 19-year old driver.

Sadly, the 54-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His teenage son was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes was taken to Palomar Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Intoxication was not suspected of having played a role in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
