Watsonville, California (December 19, 2019) – 23-year-old Esperanza Peña sustained major injuries in an alleged hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Watsonville late on October.

The pedestrian crash happened at around 5:00 a.m. on October 27, along Freedom Boulevard near Stanford Street.

Peña was struck by a black GMC pickup driven by 18-year-old Rafael Reyes on the highway for unknown reasons.

Peña sustained major injuries in the crash. Peña was then transported to Stanford’s Trauma Center for treatment of fractured pelvis, spinal column, and internal bleeding. 

Reyes did not stop after the collision and fled the scene. 

Meanwhile, Reyes was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on felony hit-and-run charges. 

The investigation is underway.
