Ernest Adams Killed in Newport Beach Bicycle Accident at 16th Street and Irvine Avenue
Ernest Adams ID’d as Bicyclist Hit and Killed by DUI Driver Sunday afternoon at 16th Street and Irvine Avenue in Newport Beach

Newport Beach, California (March 30, 2021) – The Orange County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau has identified the bicyclist who died after being struck by an alleged DUI driver Sunday afternoon in Newport Beach as Ernest Adams, 80, of Newport Beach.
The deadly crash occurred at around 3:16 p.m. Sunday, March 28th, in the area of 16th Street and Irvine Avenue, near Newport Harbor High School.
Authorities said Adams was riding his bicycle on 16th Street when a vehicle failed to stop for the posted stop sign and hit him.

Adams was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the involved vehicle stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police. Authorities later determined that the driver, identified as Alexis Garcialopez, 20, of Norwalk, was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
Garcialopez was ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI, causing serious bodily injury.
The crash remains under investigation.
