El Cajon, CA: At Least 3 Hospitalized after Car Crashes Into Sombrero Mexican Food Restaurant

El Cajon, California (September 4, 2020)-  At least three people were hospitalized Thursday night after a vehicle slammed into a taco shop in El Cajon, according to a local news source.

The accident happened shortly after 7:37 p.m. Thursday, September 3, at the Sombrero Mexican Food restaurant at 1501 E. Washington Avenue.

The incident began when the San Diego Police Department officers were attempting to pull over a suspected driver. The driver did not stop and speed off, causing the police to chase him. 

The chase was terminated approximately four blocks from the restaurant.

A short time later, the vehicle crashed into the side of the restaurant.

Car Slams Into Sombrero Mexican Food Restaurant in El Cajon Injures 3

At least two cooks, a cashier and possibly another employee were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.

The driver involved exited the vehicle and tried to flee the scene but was arrested. The driver was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries before being booked into jail on felony hit-and-run charges. 

The accident remains under investigation.
