Dublin, California (April 4, 2021) – A fiery single-vehicle crash has claimed the life of one person Sunday morning in Dublin, authorities said.

The deadly accident happened shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Interstate 580 at the Altamont Pass, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the authorities, a white Toyota pickup truck was heading eastbound on Interstate 580 when, for unknown reasons, the truck drifted off the roadway and fell roughly 300 feet down a hillside.

The impact of the crash caused the truck to split in half and catch fire.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene near the Stonecut railroad overpass and extricated the driver who had been trapped inside the vehicle.

The driver, whose name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further details regarding the collision were not immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
