Blythe, California (July 22, 2021) – Authorities have identified the man who died early Wednesday morning following a traffic accident in Blythe as Du Maurier Way, 41, of Maricopa, Arizona.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 2:14 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, on the eastbound side of Interstate 10, just west of Arrowhead Boulevard.

The CHP said two trucks were stopped on the shoulder of the interstate. Du Maurier Way was outside one of the trucks to handle mechanical issues when, for an unknown reason, a big rig veered off the roadway and struck him.

After the crash, the tractor-trailer overturned.

Du Maurier Way was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the big rig, Samuel Garcia, 60, of Whittier, was taken to a local hospital with a head injury. A woman in one of the vehicles involved complained of pain, but it was unknown if she was taken to the hospital.

Further details about the crash were not immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
