Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 8 in Jacumba

Jacumba, California (October 12, 2020) – A driver was killed Monday morning in a fiery single-vehicle crash in the Jacumba area of San Diego County, according to a local news source.

The deadly accident happened at around 6:00 a.m. on Interstate 8, just west of Carrizo Gorge Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said a 2008 Toyota Camry was traveling in the westbound lane of the Interstate 8 when, for an unknown reason, the driver lost control and drifted off the north side of the freeway.

The vehicle then crashed down a rocky embankment and rollover before it burst into flames.

First responders arrived at the scene and contained a small brush fire that was caused by the crash.

The driver of the vehicle, only identified as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of family.

It is undermined whether alcohol or drugs were suspected factors in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
