Death Valley, California (June 2, 2020) – Three people were killed and five others were injured Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision in Death Valley, according to a local news source.

The fatal crash happened at around 12:21 p.m. Sunday, May 31, on State Route 178, just east of State Route 127.

As per the report, a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by Luis Echeverria of Fontana, was heading westbound on State Route 178 when, for undetermined reasons, it collided head-on with a 2017 BMW X5 driven by Chantra Sun of Baldwin Park, who was traveling eastbound.

One passenger of the BMW X5 and two passengers of the Chevrolet Avalanche were killed in the accident. Their names have not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

Five other people were taken to Las Vegas University Medical Center in unknown condition.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
