David Cortez, Marissa Pendleton Injured in Fatal Car Crash on Highway 12 in Santa Rosa
David Cortez and Marissa Pendleton among 3 Injured in Santa Rosa Crash on Highway 12 near Merced Avenue

Santa Rosa, California (January 6, 2021) – David Cortez, 26, of Santa Rosa and Marissa Pendleton, 20 of Sebastopol, were among three people who were injured after being involved in a deadly multi-vehicle accident Monday morning in Santa Rosa.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Highway 12 near Merced Avenue at about 8:23 a.m. January 4.
George A. Palma, 32, of Sebastopol, was driving a Toyota Matrix eastbound on Highway 12 when he lost control and swerved into the westbound lane where he collided with an oncoming Ford Transit van.
The van then hit an eastbound Acura RDX that had been traveling behind the Toyota. The Toyota continued eastbound in the westbound lane and collided head-on with a westbound Chevrolet box truck.
Palma was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Hayashida who was driving the box truck sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Ford van, Cortez, was hospitalized with moderate injuries. Pendleton who was driving the Acura sustained minor injuries and was evaluated at the scene.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
