Long Beach, California (July 10, 2021) – Darnell Bluitt, 54, of Compton, has been identified as the man who was hit and killed by a vehicle on Wednesday morning in Long Beach, authorities said.

The deadly pedestrian accident transpired at about 3:45 a.m., on July 7, on Artesia Boulevard at Butler Avenue near the Long Beach (710) Freeway overpass.

According to the police, two men, including Bluitt, were pushing a disabled 1993 Acura sedan westbound on Artesia Boulevard with the help of a 43-year-old Compton woman who was steering the vehicle.

Unfortunately, a 2010 GMC truck reportedly struck them from behind.

Sadly, Bluitt sustained fatal injuries in the accident.

The Compton woman was injured in the collision and was hospitalized for treatment.

The involved driver, Patrick Mount of Long Beach, fled the scene. He was later arrested and booked for suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter with bail set at $100,000.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
