Stanislaus County, California (March 11, 2021) – Daniel Vega, 25, has been identified as one of the two parties who were injured in a Wednesday afternoon truck accident that killed two people in Stanislaus County, authorities said.

The deadly accident occurred at about 1:00 p.m., on March 3, on Interstate 5.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a box truck, driven by Catarino Torres Jr., 27 of Modesto, crashed into the back of a Toyota sedan, operated by Vega, on the roadway.

The Toyota had slowed down and was pulling over due to a flat tire when the truck rear-ended it, the officials said.

Sadly, Rael Verduzco, 30, and her daughter Erika Tineo-Verduczo, were pronounced dead at the scene. They were passengers in the Toyota.

Vega and a 4-year-old passenger, also in the Toyota, were injured in the accident and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

More details about the accident were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
