Man Killed after 14-Year-Old Driver Runs Stop Sign at Choiceana Avenue and Yucca Street in Hesperia

Hesperia, California (July 23, 2021) – The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office said Craig Sale was the driver who died in a car crash that happened Thursday morning after a 14-year-old boy ran a stop sign at an intersection in Hesperia.
The 59-year-old Hesperia man was involved in the crash that occurred at about 7:00 a.m. at Choiceana Avenue and Yucca Street.
A rescue crew from the San Bernardino County Fire Department and deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to the intersection after receiving reports of the collision.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 14-year-old male driver was westbound on Yucca Street in a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe. At the same time, Sale was southbound on Choiceana Avenue in a 2020 Kia Sportage, and a third driver was northbound on Choiceana in a 2008 Honda Civic.

Sheriff’s deputies said the 14-year-old driver failed to stop at the stop sign on Yucca and the other two drivers almost simultaneously broadsided his car from opposite directions.
Sale was rushed to Desert Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:44 a.m.
The other drivers sustained minor injuries.
Authorities said it remains unclear if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the accident.
The intersection remained closed for several hours as the Hesperia Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) deputies investigated.
