Christopher Gardner Charged after DUI Accident That Killed Pedestrian in Sugarloaf
Christopher Gardner Cited For DUI Following Sugarloaf Hit-and-Run Crash on Barton Lane near Holmes Lane
Big Bear, California (February 2, 2021) – Christopher Michael Gardner, 46, of Sugarloaf, was charged following a hit-and-run DUI crash that killed a pedestrian and left two others injured Sunday evening in the Sugarloaf area of Big Bear City.
The deadly crash occurred at about 6:01 p.m. Sunday, January 31, on Barton Lane, just east of Holmes Lane, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to the CHP, three pedestrians were walking westbound on Barton Lane when they were struck by a 2004 Toyota Highlander that was heading westbound on Barton Lane.
One of the pedestrians, a 30-year-old Ontario woman, died at the scene while the other two victims, a 22-year-old man of Henderson, Nevada, and a 29-year-old Long Beach man, sustained minor injuries.
Gardner did not stop to rendered aid to the victims and fled the scene. The CHP arrested him later that night.
As per the report, Gardner has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two enhancements of causing bodily harm or death. He was also charged with fleeing the scene of a crime, hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, two counts of DUI, as well as a misdemeanor vehicle violation.
Gardner pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his bail has been set at $250,000.
