Palermo, California (June 7, 2021) – A California Highway Patrol officer and two civilians were injured Sunday night in a traffic collision at an intersection in Palermo, according to a local news source.
The crash occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. Sunday, June 6, on Palermo Road and Lone Tree Roads.
The incident began when CHP Officer Vue was trying to catch up to an alleged drunken driver while traveling westbound on Palermo Road.
Benjamin Calderiam, 21, was driving a Kia southbound on Lone Tree Road towards Palermo Road when he drove into the intersection, directly into the path of the CHP vehicle.
Both vehicles ultimately collided. After the impact, the Kia spun out and came to a stop on Palermo Road’s north shoulder while the CHP vehicle veered off the road and rolled several times down an embankment.
Officer Vue was able to exit the vehicle and tried to help Calderiam and his passenger, Daniel Drummond.
Major Injury Traffic Collision in Palermo
As per the local news report, two occupants of the Kia sustained major injuries in the crash. One of them was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center while another was transported by ground ambulance.
Officer Vue suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Oroville Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Alcohol was not considered a factor in the collision.
An investigation into the crash remains under investigation.
