San Bernardino County Deputy Killed in Chino Car Crash at Euclid and Edison Avenues
Chino, California (February 18, 2019) – An off-duty San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputy was killed in an alleged DUI traffic crash in Chino early Sunday morning, according to the sheriff’s department.
The accident took place around 12:30 a.m. February 17, at the corner of Euclid and Edison Avenues.
As per the police report, the deputy was traveling southbound on Euclid Avenue when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Yijie Mao, 26, of Alhambra, and which was heading west on Edison Avenue.
The 28-year-old deputy was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Mao was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. He was detained on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while under influence.
The investigators are looking into the accident to ascertain its cause.
