Carmen Ramirez Injured in Winton Truck Crash at Winton Way and Mercedes Avenue

Merced County, California (January 7, 2020) – Carmen Ramirez of Winton has been identified as one of the motorists injured after a two-vehicle collision on Monday morning in Merced County, according to officials.
The collision happened at about 11:20 a.m. Monday, January 6, at Winton Way and Mercedes Avenue.
As per the CHP officials, 18-year-old Ruben Alvarez of Atwater was heading eastbound on Mercedes Avenue when he failed to yield at a stop sign and his 1999 Honda Civic crashed into a box truck that was traveling northbound on North Winton Way. The box truck was driven by Ramirez.
The two cars came to a stop on the front lawn of a nearby home after the crash. The box truck sustained significant front-end damage while the Honda was totaled following the accident.
Responding emergency crews transported Alvarez to Modesto Memorial Hospital with severe injuries. Ramirez complained of pain after the crash and was taken to Mercy Medical Center.
Officials did not suspect alcohol or drugs to be factors in the collision.
An investigation is ongoing.
