Brandon Gurel Killed in Rollover Crash on Highway 74 near Ribbonwood Drive in Palm Desert

Palm Desert, California (November 13, 2020) – A man was killed in a rollover car crash that left a second person and a minor injured in Palm Desert on Monday morning.
The deadly collision happened shortly before 1 a.m. November 9, on Highway 74 near Ribbonwood Drive.
21-year-old David Valk, of Palm Desert, was driving a 2002 Jaguar XKR eastbound on Highway 74 when he lost control while negotiating a curve and crashed into the mountainside.
The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to overturn onto its roof.
Brandon Gurel, 18 of Palm Desert, who was a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Valk and a juvenile who was a passenger in the vehicle complained of pain and were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center.
Valk was later arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
