Bernie Bischoff Injured in Old World Village Electrical Explosion Accident in Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach, California (October 7, 2019) – Bernie Bischoff was among five people injured Saturday night in an electrical vault explosion accident during Oktoberfest celebration in Huntington Beach.

The incident happened at around 8:15 p.m. Saturday, October 5 at the Old World Village.

Authorities said the accident occurred when a series of explosions in an underground electrical vault sent flames shooting into the sky during the annual event at the Old World Village.

The first explosion splattered heated mineral oil used to cool the transformers and likely ignited subsequent blasts.

Emergency crews  responded to the scene to help the involved parties.

Bischoff, who is the owner of the  Old World Restaurant, suffered major injuries from the electrical fire. He sustained third and second degree burns over 38% of his bodily.

Two firefighters and two restaurant employees sustained minor injuries as a result of the blasts and were treated at the scene.

Authorities cancelled all of the events scheduled for Sunday’s Oktoberfest while they investigated the incident.
