42-Year-Old Baljinder Kular Seriously Injured in Tehama County Crash on Interstate 5 near Flores Avenue
Tehama County, California (June 13, 2019) – A 42-year-old driver sustained major injuries in an accident involving multiple semi trucks on Monday morning in Tehama County, according to the authorities.
The crash happened just before 11:45 a.m., June 10, on northbound Interstate 5, just north of Flores Avenue.
Authorities said a vehicle was heading north on Interstate 5 when, for an unknown reason, it burst into flames. As vehicles starting slowing down for the crash, a 2015 Freightliner big rig failed to slow in time and rear-ended a 2017 Freightliner hauling a box trailer.
The crash caused a domino reaction which pushed the 2017 Freightliner into a stopped 2013 Freightliner big rig hauling a flat-bed trailer.
Baljinder Kular Seriously Injured in Big Rig Crash on I-5 in Tehama County
Baljinder Kular, 42, of Surrey, British Columbia, was the driver of the 2015 Freightliner. Kular was briefly pinned inthe wreck as the big rig was engulfed in flames. The report showed that Kular sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Redding.
The driver and passenger of the 2017 Freightliner sustained minor injuries and were transported to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital.
The driver of the 2013 Freightliner was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital with minor injuries.
The northbound lanes of the freeway were shut down following the crash. As of 1:15 p.m. the freeway was partially reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
