8 Injured, 1 Airlifted after Baker Car Accident on Interstate 15 near Zzyzx Road

Baker, California (February 5, 2019) – Several people were injured Monday afternoon in a multi-car collision in Baker, according to a local news source.
The crash happened at around 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 4 on Interstate 15, just north of Zzyzx Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 22-year-old Sacramento man was driving a white International two-axle box truck in heavy rain on southbound Interstate 15 when he failed to notice traffic slowing in front of him.
The 22-year-old Sacramento man then applied brakes, but his truck was not able to stop in time and crashed into a red Honda Civic.
The force of the impact pushed the Civic into the center divider. The box truck continued to go forward and slammed into a Subaru Impreza, a Toyota Highlander, and a Cadillac ATS. That impact caused the Cadillac to collide with a Lexus RC200, which then crashed into a Dodge Dakota.
A 20-year-old San Bernardino woman, who was a passenger in the Civic, was trapped inside the vehicle. She was extricated and flown to Antelope Valley Hospital with major injuries. The Civic driver was also transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas with unspecified injuries.
Two occupants of the Dodge Dakota and two people in the Subaru sustained minor injuries and were transported to Barstow Community Hospital. Another two people in the Toyota Highlander were also taken to University Medical Center in an unknown condition.
The driver of the box truck was uninjured.
The crash caused the closure of southbound I-15 traffic as emergency crews worked at the scene.
Alcohol or drugs were not suspected factors in the collision. An investigation into the incident is underway.
