2 Killed, 2 Injured in Baker Car Accident on Interstate 15 Freeway near Rasor Road
Baker, California (July 30, 2020) – Two people were killed and two others were injured early Thursday morning in a traffic collision on a freeway near Baker, according to a local news source.
The deadly accident occurred at around 5:17 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 Freeway, just south of Rasor Road.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, a 2013 Freightliner towing two bottom-dump trailers was traveling southbound in the No. 2 lane at approximately 55 mph when, for unknown reasons, it drifted into the west shoulder of the interstate and collided with a 2004 GMC tow truck.
The CHP said a 39-year-old Cleveland man had been driving a 2002 Chevrolet when he developed a flat tire and the tow truck driver was providing assistance. The GMC tow truck and the Chevrolet occupied by a 41-year-old woman and two children, all from Granada Hills, were both parked on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway.
The force of the impact pushed the GMC into the tow truck driver, a 43-year old Barstow man, and the 39-year-old Cleveland man. The GMC continued in a southerly direction and crashed into the Chevrolet.
As a result of the collision, the GMC and Chevrolet both came to rest in the open desert terrain while the Freightliner stopped in the dirt center divider partially blocking the No. 1 lane.

The tow truck driver and the Cleveland man were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been disclosed pending notification of family.
The 41-year-old woman and the two juveniles were taken to Barstow Community Hospital for precautionary reasons. The driver of the Freightliner, a 23-year-old Apple Valley man, was uninjured.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the accident.
