Cerritos, California (May 30, 2021) – Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who died after his motorcycle crashed into the back of a party bus early Sunday morning in Cerritos as Anthony Tyrone Boyd Jr., 37, of Long Beach.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the tragic wreck happened at around 2:35 a.m. on the westbound side of 91 Freeway,  just west of Shoemaker Avenue.

CHP said Boyd Jr. was riding a 2008 Yamaha R6 westbound in the carpool lane of the 91 Freeway at a speed over 80 mph when, for an unknown reason, he veered to the right into the no. 2 lane and rear-ended a 2013 Ford that was going at approximately 50 mph, driven by Padashi Cyrus, 61, of Arcadia.

Deadly Motorcycle Accident in Cerritos

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found Boyd Jr. lying down in the carpool lane as a result of the crash. He was declared deceased at the scene.

It was not immediately clear if Cyrus was hurt in the crash.

No one has been arrested following the collision. It is undetermined if speed played a role in the accident, the CHP said.
